How To Maintain A Healthy Beard

How To Maintain A Healthy Beard

Whilst having a beard can switch up your look and open up a whole new world of styles, they can be hard to maintain and look after. And with lockdown beards becoming more popular and post-lockdown life in the not so distant future (for the time being), we thought we'd let you chaps know how to get your beard looking and feeling its healthiest.

Shampoo your beard

Just like your hair, your beard needs to be washed regularly. Throughout the day you can get a build up of oil and dirt in your beard, so it's important to give it a thorough cleanse three to four times a week. Our Botanical Shampoo is great at removing any impurities whilst leaving the hair feeling nourished. Formulated with charcoal, essential oils and proteins, our Botanical Shampoo carefully removes any dirt or product whilst adding all the goodness your beard needs to feel soft and look healthy.

Condition the hair and skin

One thing that prevents your beard looking and feeling it’s best is if you have any split ends and coarse hairs. And the best way to tackle them is using a moisturiser or conditioning product. Something like our Beard Balm or Beard Oils

Our Beard Oils are an oil based leave in beard conditioner designed to nourish the hair, hydrate the skin underneath and reduce split ends. It also helps to strengthen hair roots which promotes a healthy growth.

As the years have passed, Apothecary 87 has accumulated different fragrances that we now feature in our Beard Oils, giving you three to choose from - Original Recipe, Vanilla and Mango, and Unscented. Original Recipe features a blend of Sandalwood, Rose Geranium and Patchouli to give a classic, masculine fragrance. Vanilla and Mango is exactly what it says on the tin - a blend of sweet vanilla and tropical mango, perfect for those who want to smell different. And finally our Unscented which smells like… well nothing, making it the perfect “fragrance” for those who don’t want to clash scents.

Our Beard Balm, on the other hand, is a water based leave in conditioner which is a lighter and deeply nourishing formula. With such a light formula, our Beard Balm easily absorbs into the skin, keeps your beard well conditioned and provides a natural hold. And just like our Beard Oils, our Beard Balm also helps reduce split ends and strengthens hair roots to promote a healthy growth.

Made in collaboration with Josh Mario John (AKA @spizioky), our Beard Balm is made with our Muskoka fragrance - a smoked maple scent inspired by the times he spent in Muskoka, Canada.

Trim regularly

Just like your hair, your beard needs a trim every now and then. The longer it is left, the more likely you are to get split ends and general hair damage in your beard. Trimming your beard can be really easy and something you can do at home. All you need is a pair of scissors and a comb. Simply brush your beard and see if any hairs split into two at the end, those are split ends. To remove them, you need to trim a couple millimetres from the start of the split end, leaving you with healthier hair.
